Cities had reached its development and gone through urbanization rapidly in the close modern period. In the 19th century due to the industrial revolution and industrial capitalism, the agricultural community started to collapse. As new factories were built in the cities, the farming population migrated looking for jobs, which eventually caused the overpopulation of cities.
The cities were overfilled with people and the population density went uncontrollably high. And urban problems started to appear on the surface. The cities struggled with poverty, housing problems, which lead to horrid living conditions and slums in cities. In slums, people would live in neighborhoods in cramped spaces dealing with sanitary problems.
The problems went on until the 20th century and the governments, who found the needs to look for ways of solving the problems caused by overpopulation, came up with a plan of developing the suburb area. Unfortunately, it only resulted in malformation of dwelling instead of adequate provision, and couldn't solve the poverty problems.
While cities struggled with urban problems, many urban movements appeared to resolve things. Ebenezer Howard's Garden City, Tony Garnier's Industrial City, Le Corbusier's Radiant City, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Broadacre City are examples of such. As a result of these movements, many new towns and condominium complex were built in the suburb area.
